Wrap a soft tape around the chest at its widest point, just behind the front legs. That number is your size — when you're between two, size up.
Is a harness really better for their back?
For a long-backed breed, yes. Clipping the leash to the chest keeps pressure off the neck and spine, where doxies are most vulnerable.
